With all respect to the other conferences in black college football, the “BCSN SportsWrap” Week 2 Top Performers all came from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

The Offensive Players of the Weekend were quarterback KHA’Darris Davis, Alabama State (ASU), and running backs Keyshawn Williams and Taeyler Porter from University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (UAPB). The Defensive Players of the Weekend were defensive back Tracy Thompkins, Mississippi Valley State and linebacker Armoni Holloway, Alabama A&M.

Davis (6-0, 184; R-Jr., Bessemer, Ala.) led ASU to a 38-31 victory over Tuskegee for the second consecutive year. He was 20-30 for 347 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. Three of those touchdowns were to wide receiver Michael Jefferson for 174 including a game-winning 82-yard score early in the 4th quarter that gave the Hornets the 38-31 lead.

Williams and Porter combined for 310 rushing yards in UAPB’s 52-34 win over Alabama A&M. The  Lions gained a total of 645 yards in the game (314 rushing and 331 passing). Williams (5-10, 195; R-Sr., Pine Bluff, Ark.) rushed for a career-best 180 yards on a career-high 21 carries while also catching three passes for 18 yards and 74 kickoff return yards. The combined 272 all-purpose yards was also a career-best.  Porter (5-10, 202; Sr., Immokalee, Fla.), a first-team preseason All-SWAC running back rushed 18 times for 130 yards and 1 touchdown in his eighth career 100-yard game.

Thompkins (5-9, 180; Sr., Miami, Fla.) recorded 15 tackles with 13 of them being solo in Mississippi Valley State’s overtime loss to Lamar University 23-20. His performance earned him the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2019 football season. It was the second time in Thompkins’ career that he reached the 15-tackle mark.

Holloway (6-2, 190; Jr. Pinson, Ala.), a first-team all-SWAC linebacker in 2018 and preseason first-team all-defensive player, recorded 16 tackles (7 solo) and 2 tackles-for-loss in the Bulldogs 52-34 loss to UAPB.
